In 2018 Sydney’s Mike Kelly is celebrating 3 anniversaries - 25 years DJing, 15 years producing; a decade of his label Sorry Shoes. Mike toured Australia 1997-2005 (The Hordern, Home, Mars Lounge,
YU/Soho, Phoenix, Arq, Midnight Shift, Cafe Del Mar, The Metro, Chinese Laundry, La Boheme & Family).
Leaving 3-5 gigs per week, Mike moved to Germany with no fans, contacts, nor language skills. By diving into the unknown, he evolved heuristically & swiftly found inspiration. By living, tasting, hearing everything possible & absorbing the diverse richness of Europe, Mike found his groove & rapidly built his place within Europe's electronic world.
UC (Frankfurt) & GMF (Berlin) gave him a chance. Within 6 months he was head resident at iconic progressive club Greenkomm (Cologne) & Naughty (Brussels). Space Of Sound (Madrid) & their stadium event Infinita recruited him. GIAM & Gay Village (Rome) taught him there's no time to waste - kick it. Love Ball & Circuit Festival (Barcelona) expanded his rhythmic sense. Guendalina & Pikador (Salento) were immense.
His fresh, precise technicality & warm hypnotic audio-layering made him a draw card in Europe, Australia, Israel, & Mexico, as well as on Atlantis cruises. His innovative way of reminding listeners to inhabit the present & to feel real emotions as opposed to reliving simulacrum led him to create compilations for Makassar (Champs Elysees, Paris) as well as to create the sounds for the Australian Pavilion launch for Venice Biennale.
Over the years Mike Kelly shared decks with Chicane, Guy J, Saints & Sinners, Armin Van Buuren, Rebekka Brown, Ivan Pica, Pagano, Lissat, Boogie Pimps, Danny Verde, Steven Redant, Ben Manson & Boy George. He plays live percussion, jams with Köln Philharmonie's lead violinist Dylan Naylor plus vocalists Natalie Gauci, Jeremy Brennan & Kevin Delite.
After 12 years Mike returned to Australia, playing Arq, ThickNJuicy, Cafe Del Mar, Thrsty, The Laird & the 30th Tropical Fruits festival NYD!
