Mike Kelly DJ & Producer
Mike Kelly DJ & Producer

Michael Kelly (Artist alias “Mike Kelly”) is a Sydney-born DJ, Producer, Mixed Media Creator, Radio Presenter, Event Manager & Record Label Manager, with 20 years of experience in diverse positions across the board in the industry – both front of house & behind the scenes.

His fascination with fringe indie pop-rock & electronic sounds extant in the 1980s provoked an existential shift at an early age, benefitting from exposure to the musical worlds of older siblings. Melody, meaning, individuality, emotional diversity... these themes developed value. Audio ideas & connected sub-cultures permeated his consciousness. Later, Mike’s tastes gestated influenced by the warehouse & club movements of the 1990s. The resultant thread of his audio habitat traverses genres of house (tech, deep, altruistic progressive), techno, electronica, chill out & breaks.

As a DJ, Mike Kelly performed at Australia’s East Coast hubs 1997-2005 whilst completing a degree in Music, Media & Cultural studies at Macquarie University & managing events ranging from boutique clubs to festivals.

In 2005 Mike was compelled to journey to the unknown, to evolve heuristically, to experience empirically.  He relocated to Germany & cemented a place for himself within the European electronic world.  Initially based in Frankfurt, then Berlin, & finally growing roots in Cologne where the distinctive moods, taste palettes & production techniques of the continent influenced his focus, technique, & conception of his artistic sensibility.  Spatiality was experienced in Madrid, emotive & elegant melodies found in Cologne, conscious power construction developed in Rome, irrefutable energy honed in Paris, & the realisation in Berlin that rules & norms are negotiable.

Mike has played over 10 main room spots at Sydney Mardi Gras, held the top residency at the iconic Greenkomm Cologne for a decade, & was a regular at Space Of Sound Madrid with a 3-year residency at their Infinita Festival to over 20,000-strong floors. Alongside Chicane, Boy George, Guy J, Armin Van Buuren etc he is constantly on tour throughout Western Europe, Australia & further.  His mixing is fresh & energetic.  His sound is layered, hypnotic, warm & meaningful.  He often presents live drumming & collaborates live with violinist Dylan Naylor, vocalist Natalie Gauci & others.

The last decade Mike Kelly has produced & remixed both solo & with Voltaxx, Jean Philips, Thomas Penton, Natalie Gauci, Paulini, Dylan Naylor, Sua Amoa, Ivan Gomez, Giese, & Eastnwest on EMI, Baroque, Whore House, Jungle Tekk, S2G, Sorry Shoes, Guareber, Bedroom Muzik, Twisted, Tactical, & Vamos.  The biggest hits so far are with studio partner Voltaxx" on Dysphoria" & “Part Time Lover” (feat. Natalie Gauci) as well as remixes for Paulini, Miguel Picasso feat Rebekka Brown, Ben Manson & Gerald Henderson, & Emrock & Dylan Naylor.
